Welcome to the Rotary Club of Selma, California

Our club was chartered on September 10, 1924.  That is correct, our 100th year anniversary will be later this year.  Stories vary on which Rotary club was our sponsor.  Officially, it was the Rotary club of Dinuba.  But, a Past District Governor, who was a member of our club, said it was the Rotary club of Fresno that sponsored us, where he was a member when he was District Governor.

Rotary itself was 19 years old when the Selma club came into being.  It was in 1905 that Paul Harris, who had established a law practice in Chicago, shared an idea he had with his closest acquaintance and client, Silvester Schiele.  The idea was to form a club where businessmen could share friendship with one another and exchange trade.  A few months later and with two additional businessmen, the first Rotary club came into existence.  Four businessmen, in Chicago, Illinois, "rotating" their meetings between their own offices.
